The Week After Christmas

January 15, 2012

We got up the morning of the 26th and went to the convenient care clinic in Hot Springs.  Caleb got a diagnosis of an ear infection, which landed him an antibiotic.  I got an eye-roll from the doctor and a prescription for Mucinex.  (Seriously – worst bedside manner ever!)  We were told that my grandparents didn’t need to be exposed to either of us, so we had to call and cancel our plans to go see them.

Mr. L. had trapped a possum (quit laughing) in their yard the night before, so the boys took the possum and released him in the woods.  Caleb thought that was pretty much the coolest thing that had ever happened.

We were happy to see Jimmy and Kim when they stopped by.  They stayed and visited with us for a while.  Caleb even talked Jimmy into Wii bowling, which was very entertaining for us all.

On Tuesday night, we went over to Pepapa and Anna Joyce’s for Christmas with the Locke family.  It was wonderful as usual and Caleb was thrilled to get to play with Maddox.  The kids got waaay too many gifts and we all ate waaay too much food.

I don’t have a lot of pictures from that night.  I’m hoping to get copies of Becca’s pictures when she uploads them.

Wednesday morning, the guys loaded up and went to the deer camp.  Their main reason for going was to ride 4 wheelers.  Mr. L. had fixed up a used 4 wheeler for Caleb and they were just itching to get him out in the woods.  Unfortunately, Caleb’s 4 wheeler still needs a little work.  It broke down right after they got there.  They had fun anyway – riding and sitting by the campfire.  Here are some pictures of the day Pops gave Caleb his wheels.  As Caleb says, “It’s a real 4 wheeler, with an engine!”

I continued to feel puny all day Wednesday.  By Wednesday night, my throat was on fire.  I looked at it and – sure enough – the telltale signs of strep.  I went back to the doctor on Thursday morning.  My strep test was negative, but I would bet a lot of money that it was because I caught it so early.  I did get an antibiotic, so I was hopeful that I would feel better quickly.  I slept all day Thursday.  I even missed  the baby shower for Julie on Thursday night.  I was miserable.

Friday morning, we got up and drove home.  I still felt awful, but I was glad to get home to my own house and my own bed.
